“Greatest Mass Hot Air Balloon Ascent” is now 345 Balloons
On October 1st, the first day of the 40th Balloon Fiesta, The Garrity Group coordinated an effort to track the number of balloons that launched from Balloon Fiesta Park in one hour. The tracking was an attempt to set a new world record in the category of “Greatest Mass Hot Air Balloon Ascent in One Hour.”
The Balloon Fiesta held the previous record of 329 hot air balloons, set in 2001. The documentation for the new record attempt of 345 hot air balloons was submitted shortly after the 2011 event.
